On March 18th, former University of Oklahoma starting quarterback was one of two people killed when a small aircraft smashed into a house in South Bend, Indiana. One of the men was 58 year old Wesley Caves, who was the owner and pilot of the plane. The plane was a 7.5 million dollar Beechcraft Premier. Witnesses say that the plane crashed into two houses before becoming lodged in a third. The second victim was 60 year old Steven Davis he played for the Sooner in the 1970s. Davis went 32-1-1 as the Sooner starter from 1973 to 1975 starting every game as head coach Barry Swatter began his coaching first three seasons as head coach. Oklahoma tied Southern California in the second game of the 1973 season then ran off 28 straight victories with Davis under Center. The Sooner went 11-0 in 1974, then won the national title again the following year after going 11-1. The plane leaked enough fuel to make hundreds of people evacuate the houses near the crash zone. The other two men in the plane survived.
