Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ has been officially announced and is slated for release on June 25, 2021. Warner Bros. have released the details for the caped crusader’s next solo venture, following many rumors reporting the departure of Affleck from the DC Cinematic Universe. After his few appearances as the Dark Knight in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and Justice League, he will be stepping down from the role for the new film. There is still some hope for fans of his portrayal, as ‘The Batman’ will feature a younger version of Batman, making Affleck unfit for the role.
The new Batman film was supposedly at one point going to star Affleck as well as be directed by him, using a script he wrote with the help of Chief Creative Officer of DC Comics, Geoff Johns. When Affleck realized he would not be fit for the job, Reeves joined the project in February of 2017. The search for the newest iteration of Batman is still underway, with Affleck giving his best wishes to Matt Reeves and the new Dark Knight in a tweet stating “Excited for #TheBatman in Summer 2021 and to see @MattReevesLA vision come to life.”
There is currently no confirmed plot line for the feature film, the only known details being that the new actor will play a younger Bruce Wayne. Reeves has also stated that his rendition will not be based on one of his favorite batman stories, Frank Miller’s Batman: Year One.
